| Nova Publishing Company and its imprint EarthPress take seriously the impact of book publishing on the Earth and its resources. Nova is committed to protecting the environment and to the responsible use of natural resources. As a book publisher, with paper as a core part of our business, we are very concerned about the future of the world's remaining Endangered Forests and the environmental impacts of paper production. We are committed to implementing policies that will support the preservation of Endangered Forests globally and to advance 'best practices' within the book and paper industries. Nova Publishing Company is very proud to be one of the first members of the Green Press Initiative, a non-profit program dedicated to supporting publishers in their efforts to reduce their use of fiber obtained from endangered forests. Nova Publishing is also proud to be an initial signatory on the Book Industry Treatise on Responsible Paper Use. Nova intends to always exceed the requirements of this important Treatise. All Nova books printed prior to 2008 were printed on recycled paper with a minimum of 30% post-consumer fiber, recycled with a 100% chlorine-free process. Beginning in 2008, all Nova books have been printed on recycled paper with 100% post-consumer waste, de-inked with a 100% process chlorine-free process. All Nova and EarthPress books are printed on paper that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as 100% sustainably harvested. For more information, go to http://greenpressinitiative.org/. and http://www.fscus.org. Also, all Nova titles are printed using only soy-based inks. Nova's environmental policies have saved hundreds of thousands of gallons of water, hundreds of thousands of kilowatts of electricity, thousand of pounds of pollution and carbon dioxide, and thousands of trees that would otherwise have been used in the traditional manner of publishing its books.
In addition, Nova uses all compact fluorescent lighting; recycles all office paper and cardboard products, all aluminum and plastic beverage containers, and all printer cartridges. For 95% of in-house paper use, Nova uses 100% post-consumer fiber, 100% process chlorine-free, 100% acid free paper. Whenever available, Nova uses only computer and electronic equipment that is EPA Energy Star-certified. Nova's freight shipments are coordinated to minimize energy use whenever possible.
Finally, all carbon emissions from Nova Publishing office energy use are offset by the purchase of wind-energy credits that are used to subsidize the building of wind turbines on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. For more information go to www.nativeenergy.com We strongly encourage other publishers and all partners in publishing supply chains to adopt similar policies.
